Let’s look a bit deeper into what differs female traders from male traders in the Forex Trading Competition.
I managed to find some scientific material to help us understand some of those differences, in an article written by Louise Bedford published in thinkbigmagazine.com.
Similar to what was said in my previous article, women make more of methodical and disciplined traders, however the majority of women worry about the fact that trading is a male dominated market. Us men are usually driven by our egos and tend to consider the Forex market as an enemy if you will. Therefore, we need to find its flaws and exploit them in order to achieve profit.
It’s all related to biology. The cold-blooded risk evaluation skills shown by female traders come from their anterior cingulate cortex, which is larger than the men’s. This area of the brain tends to make us humans worry more about what a situation could bring to their children or to the future offspring.
Women’s prefontal cortex is also bigger than the men’s one and, by deterring women from making a fool of themselves in public, it stops them from getting into crazy positions, losing and looking ridiculous on the trading desk. But us boys usually don’t place much importance about looking like idiots :) This part of the brain is closely linked to the hippocampus which is, again, found to be smaller in Mars than in Venus. That particular region helps remembering events, so a bad trade won’t be forgotten by a girl anytime soon, whilst a boy will quickly get over it.
Last but not least, the insula, which allows a person to hold back instincts. Guess who has the smaller one? You guessed right. That’s why men are more likely to trade against the trend or the charts.
Basically, boys will go for a fight just like that, whilst girls will take their time to evaluate the odds of surviving the rumble. Well, this obviously doesn’t apply to sales opening day :)
Both ways are complimentary to trading in the Forex market which can work a
gainst you when being either too confident or shying away from certain opportunities.
