The Forex market according to gender part.1

Hello boys. Yes, boys. Why only boys? Because it came to my attention that there’s a huge majority of males in the Forex Demo Competition. Some months ago, we stopped asking for the gender in the registration process so we don’t have the exact numbers but according to previous stats, it was something like 6% girls.

That’s why the ranking looks more like a boxing locker room than a ballet rehearsal :)

I thought it would be interesting to dig a bit deeper about the proportional gender representation in the Forex market. And this is how I came across a cool article from fxtradermagazine.com, published in October 2010, which contained an interview of a 29 year old female trader.

She started trading on her own at first and then continued her career at JPMorgan. She further explains that the main difference between retail traders and bank traders is that the banks have the benefit of seeing flow which they can react to.

However, Kathy Lien has her own trading style, based on a mix between fundamental and technical analysis, like many other traders, where she uses the fundamentals to get into positions and technicals to follow through and exit.

About women in finance, she states there’s only a few but that it can be a career advantage, since you will be easily recognizable amongst the few. According to her, it’s your own fear that creates your glass ceiling.

In the article she makes reference to a male colleague trader and their differences : she’s disciplined and methodical while he’s more instinctive.

How about you guys? Do you feel the same?

Next article will concern the same topic, from a scientific point-of-view, brain functions and stuff like that!

Feel free to share this article with your female relatives and friends, especially if it can convince them to join the Forex Trading Competition and therefore balance the gender forces! Unless you’re trying to avoid competition…
